Skribentens beskrivelse af Billy ElliotThe Story takes place in the mid 80s. It's about an 11 year old boy called Billy Elliot. His mom died not many weeks or months ago and his dad wants him to be a boxer, but Billy wants to be a ballet dancer. Meanwhile, there's a nearby mine, whose miners has begun to strike. Some people still wants to work, but those who are participating in the strike, starts hating the other people, calling them names and even throwing stuff at them. Because of that, the police are escorting those who want to work, to ensure their safety, but they can't stop the people in the strike from throwing things after them, even though they're sitting in a bus. Billy's family is doing fine, but at some point, his father and brother starts feeling the pressure of the missing money and Billy's dad start thinking about starting at work again. At the small gym in town, Billy is receiving Ballet lessons from Mrs. Wilkinson. Mrs. Wilkinson is teaching Ballet when Billy is boxing, which makes Billy look the other way.
