I chose this topic, because since we first began to talk about South Africa in school, I was fascinated by the way Nelson Mandela could change so much in one country. What is apartheid? The word Apartheid is a Dutch (Hollandsk) word for “living apart”. Apartheid is the name given to the system of a government that ruled South Africa from 1948 until 1994. The system was about ranking. People were legally classified as belonging to a particular racial group: White, Black, Indian or Coloured. The Whites were first class citizens, Indians second best, Coloured third, and the Blacks got the lowest status.Lignende opgaver |
