Intro Hello, my name is Oliver and i have chosen to talk about memes under the main topic of Identity, i chose this topic because it has become a part of my life and memes has become such a popular trend worldwide and a big part of the internet for most teenagers and young adults. What is a meme, and where did it originate from? It’s kinda hard to define what a meme really is but most of the time it’s a funny picture with some text, a GIF which is a short clip, a movie clip or even a dance move. Memes became most popular due to the internet around 2012 when PSY released the song “Gangnam style” and everyone was doing the dance he was doing in the video, and making parodies of the song. I became familiar with internet memes around 2011 when i saw people putting toast around their cat’s head and post a picture on the internet. Ever since then i have been into memes, because i liked the idea that it is just something funny everyone can make and laugh at, and you can put your own twist to it. Memes were not a term that people knew, just a few decades ago, but now it is almost a part of every teenagers life, we read a text some time ago named “Growing up” where they tell about how social media has become a part of growing up and memes is kinda the same thing, in the way that memes has become such a big part of the internet. if you’re on the internet daily, you should see a meme once in a while Internet memes In the beginning of memes becoming really popular, they became most popular in the US between young people on the internet, teens startet to share memes with each other on social media and soon the rest of the world jumped on the train of memes, I don’t really know why they got so popular between teens or in the US, but I think it’s because a lot of young people use the internet to have fun, and memes are a fast way to get some entertainment. I’m not quite sure why internet memes are so popular worldwide but i think it’s because of how funny they can be, i know from personal experience that memes can be incredibly funny if you can relate to them, it’s like the more you can relate to it, the funnier it gets. And i think it’s also because you can make memes out of almost anything, and it’s almost impossible to run out of funny memes, or things you can turn into a meme.
