Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie commencement speech at Wellesley college is about Gender inequality and discrimination. She opens her commencement speech by thanking the school for inviting her, and by applauding the graduates. She then goes on to talk about her first experiences with gender inequality by telling a personal story. She explains that when she was younger, she was put down by a man who did not believe in her opinions because she was a woman. Adichie then mentions how privileged men are, and how it often blinds people of the inequalities that surround them. In addition to this, she warns the graduates not to become blinded by their own privileges and remind them to acknowledge that their degree from Wellesley College is a privilege. Lastly Adichie advises the graduates to maintain their fundamentals and not to change themselves for the sake of pleasing others.
