In a recent case, a Turkish journalist was arrested for expressing critical opinions about the government in an online article. The journalist was writing about alleged corruption in the government, the journalist wrote that he had sources and evidence to support the claims. The unacceptable arrest was made under laws, that violated human rights. However, the government was claiming that the journalist's work was a threat to national security and public order. The government said that they needed to do what they did because they wanted to protect the image of the public official.
My opinion:
In my view, when they arrested the journalist, it showed a bad image of the Turkish government because, they clearly broke Article 19 that says we can speak our minds freely. In my opinion, that human right is one of the most important one because, it lets us share our thoughts about what we think about society, the government, and our country. But in this scenario, the Turkish government is using national security as an excuse to put the journalist in jail and get what they want, and that’s not good. It's like they are using their position and power in the society to do what they want to and get people to silence their mouths when they say something the government disagrees with.
