The film Billy Elliot is about an 11 year old boy called Billy. He lives up in the northern England, in a city called Everington. The city is fictional, and is called County Durham, in real life. Billy haves a very macho man dad called Jackie, and a big brother called Tony. Jackie and Tony are striking miners, during the UK miners strike in the period of 1984-1985.

Jackie is a great admirer of the champion boxer; Ken Buchahan and he really want Billy to become like him. So Billy is being taken to the gym where there is boxing training. But during the boxing training, Billy sees a ballet class in the other side of the gym. Billy becomes interested in the ballet, and secretly he is dancing ballet, but tells his dad his boxing, so he isn’t disappointing him. In the meantime Tony is being arrested in a confrontation of the miners and police. This is a big consequence and causes that Billy misses a big audition to the Royal Ballet School. His ballet teacher ballet teacher Mrs. Wilkinson goes to Billy´s house to tell his father about the miss chance. But Billy´s dad doesn’t care, because he is afraid of people should think Billy is a queer (homosexual). Almost in the end of the movie, Jackie sees Billy dance, and he understands Billy´s passion for ballet, and takes him to another audition in London. Billy is accepted and moves to London.
