The American dream

Abstract

In this task I want to examine the relation between the American Dream and the residual welfare state and the political and economic pros and cons related to the concept of the American Dream.

I will in my analysis of the film 8 Mile look in to B-Rabbits idea of the American Dream and focus on his hunt for success and how he manages to achieve it.

Finally, I will discuss and conclude whether the American Dream is relativity to this day, including the possibility of social mobility.

Definitionen af The American dream er, at en hver er sin egen lykkesmed og at ethvert individ kan forbedre sit eget liv, i form af hårdt arbejde og succes. The American dream, nævnes første gang i James Truslow Adams bog The epic of the America i 1931.

"life should be better and richer and fuller for everyone, with opportunity for each according to ability or achievement" regardless of social class or circumstances of birth”

Her siges det, at en hver uanset arv og miljø eller af social klasse, har ret til den frihed de selv skaber. At ”alle mænd er lige” dvs. at alle har samme ret til succes, i form af hvert enkles viljestyrke og arbejdsindsats.
