Tourism is a mixed blessing for third world communities. It creates new jobs and provides the locals with a greater income. Given the fact that many third world countries are dissatisfied with their own conditions and want to evolve, they imitate the western lifestyle. The traditions that everybody in a third world community considers normal, are seen as eccentric and fun by the people who are visiting the country. With that thought in mind, the locals have found a way to ‘’monetize’’ their traditions and practices.
If there would not have been any tourists visiting a specific place, some traditions would have been lost, but as the people living there see a chance of making an income off of them, they are revived.
The money from the tourists help develop local infrastructure. Public transport is ‘’upgraded’’, and everything else that is needed so a country can ‘’run’’ and keep up with the rest of the world.
Although it may seem as tourism is one of the best thing for third world countries, it has some negative sides to it. First off, tourists consume sparse water and energy resources, so the people who have to actually live there after the tourist season is over, suffer from it.
