Greetings, readers of the National youth magazine. I am Alex and I recently applied to join the ? Mars One mission? . In this article, I am going to be explaining my reasoning for wanting to leave everything behind and start a new life on Mars. I will also be talking about which specific traits I have, and why I think they will be crucial for the Mars One mission. Why do I want to go? Ever since I was a small child, I always loved space, there was something about the massive, mysterious, black and dull entity, that surrounds our beloved Earth, and everything else for that matter, that drew me towards it, and now I finally get a chance to explore it? Sign me up! I love the stars and the planets, I love the uncertainty, that is space, I love rocket ships and canned food, I love the idea of aliens, although we probably won't find any, I love everything about space! Although I appreciate it, I always found life on Earth quite boring, homogenous and unwavering, every day the same monotony and nothingness, this is why I am leaving everything behind; to chase a dream of mine and I encourage all you youngsters to do the same! At this point, you may be asking yourself; why would anyone in their right mind go to this not only literally, but also figuratively cold, oxygen deprived ball of sand in space? I agree, if you put it like that, Mars does seem like it is passionless and unwelcoming, but I find it interesting and fascinating, and to me this ? space stuff ? is more exciting that anything. What attributes will I offer the Mars One mission, and why are they are undoubtedly going to choose me as one of the four lucky people? I use the term ? lucky people? very loosely, since, in my opinion luck is an illusion, luck is a word inferior people use, in order to feel better about themselves. That way, when they lose, or are defeated, they can blame this mythical phenomenon, they call luck. All right, with that out of the way, what do I have to offer? I am a rational person, not driven by emotion; I will never let my feelings cloud my judgement, this will help ensure success. Furthermore, I have studied psychology, and because of that, I know how situations with people should be handled, I am certain this will also prove to be a critical attribute. Needless to say, I am a proficient English speaker, which is a necessity, since the definitive language used for communication will be English. No turning back? The ? catch? if you want to call , it that, to the Mars One project is that you cannot, no matter the circumstances return to Earth, hence the name: Mars ONE; it? a one way ticket, so s goodbye forever Earth, great knowing you! I am not too concerned about it at the moment though, but maybe I? regret it in twenty ll years or so. That is all. Thank you to the National youth magazine, for featuring me.
