The early days of Facebook: a personal account

When I tell people, I went to the same college as Mark, they often ask me “how is Mark as a person” and that always takes me back to the time when I was in college. I met Mark a couple of time in the cafeteria, because we were in the same friend group. But had not really talked with him. We all were interested in the technology-world and talked a lot about it at the launch table. Out of nowhere, Mark wanted to show us something on his computer. I remember feeling odd because Mark didn’t talk too much, but now he couldn’t stop talking. He began to talk about something called Facebook. My friend and I were the only ones who had time to go with Mark, to see what he was talking about. The others had class. As I said earlier, he could stop talking about the Facebook thing.

We arrived at Mark’s room and, he started his computer. He had built up such and atmosphere about the whole Facebook thing, so I was a little disappointed when he showed us the website.

But I couldn’t sleep that night. I could not stop thinking about facebook and how good an idea it actually was. Facebook kept growing on me. So, the next morning I went to Mark’s room, and we started talking about the whole facebook thing again. What improvements the website could use, what design and so on. We had so much fun coding and designing the website we forgot all about time.
