What is veganism? Veganism is a philosophy and way of living for humans which seeks to exclude all forms of exploitation of cruelty to, animals for food, clothing, or any other purpose. One thing vegan have in common is a plant-based diet and avoiding all kind of animal food such as different type of meat for example fish, shellfish, and insects. But also eggs and honey as well as avoiding animal-derived materials, products tested on animals and places that use animals for entertainment.
On one hand vegan diets include a wider variety of vegetables and fruit which means they increase intake of minerals, vitamins, and antioxidant. Vegan diets tend to be rich in foods that have proven health benefits with seeds, nuts, beans cause is higher in fibre and lower in cholesterol, protein and calcium compared to a non-vegan. Heart disease is a lower risk for those who eat vegan and vegetarian diets, but they have a higher risk of stroke.
On the other hand, veganism isn’t perfect consequently veganism often still results in harm to animals, and even to people. An example could be that modern methods of harvesting plants results in killing many mice and rodents. Even when vegans mostly get their food from vegetables and fruit, they increased intake of carbohydrates and that can be problematic if those carbohydrates sources come from refined sugars and grains which lack any nutrition and can lead to bad weight gain.
