The article says, that children are choosing fast food over more healthy options. Factors such as the media’s influence and peer pressure, is making the kids choose unhealthy food. A study concludes that the food and drinks the youngsters consume categorizes them in the same way as their clothes, interests and music. This is making the pupils believe they’ll get a special status through their eating habits. The pupils believed that it’s only sporty stereotyped people who eat healthy food, while fast food meals are associated with “boy heroes” like Bart Simpson. The critic falls on the government, with increasing concern over the low nutritional food. They hope the government, as a start, will phase out the vending machines from schools in England, just like they did in Scotland and Wales.

These four texts each chose a different line of approach to the subject obesity. In the first text “Many Immigrants Fall Prey to America’s Obesity Epidemic” we get the impression that obesity is a rising issue among immigrants and low-income families in unsafe neighborhoods. These people have, however since they arrived in the United States, had a hard time making time for exercise and staying away from junk food. The second text “Teen Dieting May Lead to Adult Obesity” deals with the fact that the majority of overweight kids, who try the hardest to lose weight as youngsters, most likely will continue being obese as adults. The problem is, that young people tender to lose weight by diets that practically starve people, it’s fueling the body, and that makes it hard to maintain the weight loss in the long run. In the third text “TV-addict kids run greater risk of obesity: study” the blame is on the television, which some youngsters are glued on to for almost their entire childhood. It presents how TV-addiction causes a greater risk of obesity. Researchers from New Zealand have concluded that there’s a connection between spending many hours watching television throughout childhood, and obesity as a grown-up. The last text deals with the fact that most kids often choose unhealthy food over more healthy options. Factors like peer pressure and the media’s influence is making the kids chose unhealthy food, and it has suddenly become a taboo among youngsters to have healthy eating habits.
