My name is Ronald Fryer and I come from Harvard.
When I was about 15 years, I was asked what I wanted to be when I was 30 years, where I replied that I actually figured that I would be dead. When I was around 15 I hung out a lot with a gang and I also sold drugs at the same time. The criminal lifestyle was not so far from me, I'm from a family where my father often was in prison, and I actually had to borrow money to get him out again. My great-uncle and great-aunt sold drugs and many of my other relatives was often in jail. I never thought that I would end up with to win a term as professor of economics at Harvard. Tonight I will tell you a little about being African American. I've made some inquiries about the difference between white and black, which address the differences are, such terms of learning and payroll purposes. But for example the boss of American Express and the country's most popular talk shows host (Oprah Winfrey) are black. While household income for African-American has risen from $ 22.300 in 1967, to $ 32.100 in 2006, so it is a total increase of approximately $ 10.200 that shows that the majority of African-Americans now belong to middle class, and is able to leave the ghettos today. But after all most of the Afro-Americans are ending up in jail anyway. For not less than four decades ago, blacks from the South could not vote, they were not allowed to go to the same schools as the whites and not allowed to live side by side with white people. Why did they just not have made apartheid here in America too, instead of just having it in South Africa, it was nevertheless the same principle which was actually started.
