While I watched the film “Dead Man Walking” I had several different emotions that went through my body, both sad and happy feeling. Throughout the film I had a sad feeling because I have much against death penalty, but several times I had hoped that Matthew got a fair punishment, it was in those moments I got some positive thoughts.
The film has affected me in several ways. I've got another opinion about criminals on the death row and a much stronger opinion about the death penalty. It is wrong to kill people even if they had killed one or more people themselves. Often it is far worse for the prisoner to sit in prison than to execute him. The American government could save billions of dollars just by letting them sit behind bars.
The way the nun has intention to help Poncelet and the families of the victims are a difficult task because she must get acquainted with a case from both sides. It is difficult for the family of the victims to understand why she wants to help this murderous felon and I sometimes think that she doubts whether she makes it right. She never gives up hope about getting Matthew Poncelet sentenced to prison instead of requiring him to death penalty.
