The Skagen painters were a Scandinavian artists' colony, which settled in Skagen to paint in the extraordinary light, which is said to exist this place. Many of the artists lived for periods of Brøndums Hotel.The Artists payment for the stay, was paid by giving the hotel a work of art.Skagen painters are very well represented at the Skagen Museum of Art.
Anna Ancher was the only one who was born and grown up in Skagen.She was the daughter of Ane Hedvig and Erik Brøndum. Anne was very young when the painters started to travel to Skagen.One of the painters was Michael Ancher, they were married in eighteen eighty.They lived together in Skagen the rest of their life, in the house at Markvej.Today the house is a museum called “Michael and Anna Anchers House”
