En hjemløs fars brev til sine børn

I know we haven’t seen each other for like ten years, but I miss you very much. You’ll might think that it is very weird that we haven’t talked in ten years, and suddenly I’m writing you a letter. I don’t know how you feel about me writing to you, but I felt that this was the best way to get in touch with you. Since its been ten years I think I will tell you a little of what I’ve been doing.

In September 2005, just a couple months after I had been send on the street, I found the shelter that I looked for. Everyday I went down the street, and when I saw the donut shop I walked a little faster, that was the only place that let in homeless and gave them a free donut. I did that for around four months, but then the shelter wouldn’t let me in anymore. So I had to find a new place to live, and now I knew that I needed to find my own food and get my own stuff. I took my bags and I found a place where a lot of people walked by and in a corner there was a fan heater, I just sat there all day with a little cup and watched people walk by without even thinking about giving me any money. Sometimes this same little girl, I guess she was 7-8 years old, came and gave me 2 dollars. I was grateful, I believe she was the reason I survived the first 2 months on that corner. One day she had 5 dollars and she just putted them in my little cup, and she took her little backpack and pulled up a blanket and two sandwiches, she gave me the sandwiches and placed the blanket on the ground. She just sat there right next to me and talked to me, she was so sweet and she kept my mood high. She came down to give me food and talk to me every Monday and Thursday, she kept growing and as she got older her visits was more and more rare. In 2009 she stopped visiting at all and I had to make it on my own, but it wasn’t very hard because every dollar she gave me I saved in one of my bags so I had a lot of money and today I still have one dollar she gave me. I still live on the street, but I’ve got used to it. Its actually kind of nice, I’m felling so free.
