When Jack finds out about his wife Sylvia’s accident, he and his mother rush of to the local hospital. At the hospital the doctor tells Jack that Sylvia is in a bad state, he tells him that half of her scalp has been ripped off caused by the great accident she had at work. Afterwards Jacks mother asks the doctor if the accident will disfigure her appearance. The doctor avoids a direct answer. Then we hear that Sylvia’s parents are dead and that Jack and Sylvia live in Jack’s mothers house with her.
The doctor asks Jack to come meet his wife Sylvia in the operating room, but apparently Jacks mother doesn’t have permission to follow Jack. In the operation room Jack finally sees his poor wife. Sylvia tells Jack how horrible it was when her hair was caught in the spindle, and that she didn’t even know which consequences it would have at the time. Sylvia has also been given drugs to kill the pain. Then Sylvia admits her big fault: She has been working too much while having a kid. She’s apologizes to Jack and says “one up for you and your mother”. Jack shows us how uninfluenced by his mother he has become by saying “no it’s not like that” and that he only wants to focus on her wellbeing. They both admit that their relationship has not been great probably caused by their lack of communication.
