In the Name of the Father Based on a true story, In the Name of the Father is about a young Irish man, Gerry Conlon, who was wrongfuly imprisoned in England in the 1970's for a terrorist bombing. He admitted to the crime, but only after police force and torture. Three friends are also wrongfuly imprisoned and they all soon become known as "The Guildford Four." All four receive life in prison. When Gerry's father came to help, he is imprisoned as well, along with Gerry's aunt and 14 years old cousin. Even when the real bomber, allready in jail, eventually confesses that he was the real bomber, the authorties ignore the truth and keep it quiet instead of admitting their errors. After about 17 years in jail, a dedicated lawyer, comes to his rescue. She knows that there are innocent people in jail but she must find some evidence to get them out. She eventually came upon some startling evidence that was kept hiden so that the truth would be revealed. Together, she and Gerry are determined to prove his innocence and eventually, "The Guildford Four" are proven innocent and released. However, Gerry's father have died in prison and to this day, his son Gerry is fighting to clear his name. His father die an innocent man, but the court records still say that he is guilty. They have a deep love for eachother. Prior to going to jail, Gerry was an only son ad his father worshipped him and Gerry worshipped his father. But of course they have differences of many things, not just the campaign to get themselves out of prison. Gerry got to know him as a person and he was able to look inside his heart and see a strength, this physically weak man, enormosly strong inside. He also had seen him deteriorating and fade away and that was a very sad and traumatizing thing to have to watch.
