I choose to talk about anorexia in the United Kingdom, because I`ve always been interested in anorexia and I hear a lot about it in the media. Society has made an unrealistic image of the perfect body and many people get affected by that. I think it`s a big problem in many countries and it`s important to help the patients because the consequences can be fatal.
What is anorexia?
Anorexia is a deadly disease, where the diagnosed cares about their body, how they look and not only that. Anorexia is also a mental illness, it involves a lot of feelings too. There´s no such a thing as “thin enough”, they always set new unachievable goals for their body weight. The diagnosed lose about 15% of their body weight. Anorexics are usually always very tired because they don´t have enough nourishment, but they ignore the tiredness with more training.
What can be the symptoms of it?
There are many symptoms of anorexia. Girls can miss their menstruation, and sometimes it doesn´t return so they can´t have children in the future. Another symptom is low blood percentage or as known, anemia. Anorexics have a slower heart rhythm, dry skin, soft nails and thin falling delicate hair. It´s also easier for them to get blue marks.
