Child poverty in the UK is a growing problem and it affects more than 4 million children. Poverty harms children’s health and damages their futures. It also damages our society. Four million, almost a third of children in the UK lives in poverty – that’s around nine in the average classroom. The situation is getting worse, with the number set to rise to five million by 2020.
Conditions and Circumstances
Child poverty is a terrible injustice that shows the severely damage it does to children’s chance in life. If a child is suffering from child poverty, that means that he or she is lacking resources. They don’t have resources to obtain the right amount of food or just the “right” food. They have problems with participate in activities, such as their school because they don’t get enough food to keep their brain on top.
“At The Children’s Society, we know from our work with children and families that experience disadvantage that poverty means tough choices between having to heat your home and feeding the children. For young people themselves, it means not having a birthday celebration as parents can’t afford it, chronic stress and missing out on learning opportunities.” They said.
