If we’re talking US Civil Rights, then would probably be best to go back to when it all started. And when I write “it all started” I don’t just mean US Civil Rights, but the beginning of the US itself. When settlers and pilgrims reached America, they weren’t happy to see that it was already inhabited. America was originally inhabited by the native Indians, who had come from up north, and with time, inhabited many places in America. The newcomers (aka the European settlers etc...) decided that America was theirs, and therefore started to move all the Native Indians into resorts, or killing them. This was the first sign of human mistreatment, and was not going to be the last.
Next up on our journey through US Civil Rights, we have slave trade. Years after the colonization of America, slaves had become VERY popular amongst farm owners. These slaves would be brought in from Africa, with many of them dying on the long trips, and then sold in America, to the highest bidder. Summed up, they sold humans that they knew nothing about, to abuse them for money and production. The place where most slaves were put to work was at farms which focused on “Cash Crops” What cash crops essentially was, was crops that earned a lot of cash for the crop owners. These crops mostly consisted of things like tobacco and cotton. Earlier I wrote that the slaves were “abused” and I’m going to go a little deeper into that now. These slaves were treated like animals. To the eyes of the average white man, these colored slaves, were not human. Slaves were whipped, tortured, and mistreated in the most inhumane ways imaginable. And then you might ask yourself: “Why did the Americans treat the slaves like this? Why did they not even find them human?” The answer is simple. First off, they were not Americans. They didn’t originate from America, so the Americans didn’t think they should be able to have the same rights as them. Second of all, their skin color. The fact that their skin was a lot darker than the average American actually meant for the Americans, that these “Negros” were more animal-like than human.
