Many people say school and education is the most important factor to secure a prospers future. But what makes a good school? and what factors need to be in consideration. It is often seen that people attending the same school are having contradictory views on the school. Everyone’s school experience is vastly different which causes differences in opinions in what makes a good school. If you for example ask a person from the ministry of education they might have a different view then a parent. Often a school is judged based on statistics, such as test scores, graduation rates, or the number of students attending college after attending the school. But there are several things that need to be taken in consideration, when answering ‘what makes a good school’. Is it the schools staff or the amount of money available? Could it be things like IT facilities, school uniforms, single sex schools or could the size of the school have an effect?

When determining whether a school is good or bad the staff is the most important factor, this covers both administration and teachers. If the teachers can’t teach the curriculum chances of the students passing the exams aren’t high. So, what makes a good teacher the teachers need to be highly educated, and most of all they must enjoy teaching. A teacher can very well be highly educated but if they don’t enjoy teaching or simply don’t know how to teach the pupils their knowledge, they aren’t doing any good. It is the school’s administration who hires the teachers, which means if the schools administration doesn’t know what to look for when hiring you cannot ensure capable teachers. Which means if you have a good administration who knows how to find the good teachers what stops them? Funding! In almost everything in this complex globalized society, it comes down to money. If the schools do not have money to pay the good teachers they will properly lose all the good teachers to private schools, who can pay more money.
