Write an analytical essay in which you analyse and interpret Rudyard Kiplin´s poem “The White Man´s Burden”(1899)

Part of your essay must deal with the the following,

What does the burden consist of? To whom is the poem addressed? How are the natives described? How do they react to the white man and his burden? What are the poetic devices used in the poem?

The white man’s burden

It is about the burden that has fallen on the white men. The white men think that they have been given an awful burden to rule. The writer claims that it is the duty or burden of the white men to civilize the non-whites or the blacks, to educate them and to religiously lift them.

He is specifically talking about the non-whites who are colonized. It is common amongst the Americans to have the idea that there was a lack of newly colonized non-whites and that the few there were needed help from a greater society. The writer uses the whites’ public feelings towards the issue and writes this poem in an attempt to make the white people help the colonies of the non-whites.

At the time, the poem “The White Man’s Burden” was published, whites were already conflicted on what to do about the colonized people.…………………………………
