Yesterday, the 8th of January 2018, I met and interviewed Jessica Watson, who is well known for completing a southern hemisphere in about 7 months.
She was born in 1993, she’s shy and suffers from being dyslexic, which is a reading disorder.
She was mainly nominated to the “Young Australian of the Year” because of her extremely dangerous trip in her ship named “Ella’s Pink Lady”
that lasted 210 days, where she was completely alone in the ocean. She survived 7 knockdowns and 3 capsizes. She suffered from dyslexia early on , Jessica then became a popular storyteller on her blog and then in her bestselling books she wrote about her voyage.

In 2011 she was awarded the “Young Australian of the Year”, by the Australian Prime Minister, because she completed the southern hemisphere with only solo circumnavigation unassisted at the age of 16,
that impressed a lot of people including the Prime Minister and there were many people recognising her afterwards.
She took off from Sydney on the 18th of October in 2009, heading north east from Sydney where she crossed equator in the Pacific Ocean and before she crossed the other, she returned to Sydney on the 15th of May 2010, which was a few days before her 17th birthday. The voyage was shorter than what was required to be considered a global circumnavigation. Watson never claimed that the voyage was an attempt to do so. She was recognised and shortly after awarded with the “Young Australian of the Year” award as well as the Medal of the Order of Australia.
