Abstract

This project, explore the molecular basis of epigenetics, and the causes of health problems in the Dutch population during WW2. We focus on a source "Pieter van Marken. "A teenager in Holland in WWII" as well as the results of the study" Mystery of the Dying Dutchmen”. According to the study, it has been found that there was generally a very poor personal hygiene, which was one of the factors in health problems.

In this project, we have also investigated the consequences pregnant mother’s children have had because of the famine and how it will affect later in life. In this investigation, we found that the children had a tendency to develop lifestyle diseases such as diabetic and heart problems. This has been able to be analyzed from parts of the study "Prenatal exposure to the Dutch famine and health in later life".

In addition, we found some research treatments that can help reduce the effects of future hunger disasters. One of them was an enzyme that can remove the methyl groups from histone tails. The other was gene therapy which can be used to treat and cure people with a genetic disease by replacing a mutated and non-functional gene with a functional gene.Indholdsfortegnelse
