In 1860, President Abraham Lincoln, struggled to abolish slavery. At that tme about half of the Confederate populaton was black slaves. Slave owners and the rest of the white populaton feared a slave revolt, and that they would lose the wealth, which the slaves created for them. The result was that some of the southern states in 1961 seceded from the union and formed America Paired States. But even here it was too late to stop the civil war, that came to ravage the country for four years, and which costed 600,000 American lives. Before the civil war ended in 1865, Abraham Lincoln abolished slavery. This did not made the big difference for the now freed slaves. Slave states made laws that prevented blacks from gettng any kind of infuence or buy land and property. The government in Washington said that those laws were invalid, but when the Confederates would not bend, they were occupied by government troops north to be sure to enforce the decision. The troops were, however, withdrawn and southern states passed laws that led to racial segregaton everywhere. In schools, parks, hospitals, almost all public places were divided into "Colored Only" and "For Whites Only." The 1st Klan's politcal ideology was: White supremacy, vigilantsm and Christan terrorism. The 1st Ku Klux Klan was from 1865-1870s. Then the 2nd Klan's politcal ideology was: White natonalism, Natvism, Ant-Catholicism and antsemetsm. The 2nd Klan was from 1915-1944. The 3rd Klan's politcal ideology is: Ant-communism, Homophobia, Neo-Nazism.
