One of the lucky ones: an interview with Sall

I had an arrangement with Sall at my house in Chicago. She arrived at my place in

the morning when the sun had just risen. She looks beautiful in her dress with the

most wonderful smile and lively brown eyes.

Sall is a black woman who comes from a plantation in Mississippi where she was

born. Her parents came from Africa where they were kidnapped by two white men.

”It was a terrible experience for my parents to be taken away from family and friends,

and it has affected them ever since”

Throughout her life, she worked under terrible conditions. She slept on wooden

planks and the slaves didn't get enough food.

I asked her how it had affected her life to be a slave. She told me, that she ran away

from the plantation when she was 21 years old. Today she works as a cleaning lady

at a school. She lives in Whitefish in Montana and she has two young boys and a

husband. She is now 27 years old.

I wondered if Sall still talk with the other ones from the plantation in Mississippi.
