Analyse af Rudolfo Anayas novelle 'Dead End'

The death of a parent affects children in unthinkable ways. I bring a child a lot of doubt and

uncertainty about what decisions to make in life, without that parent to guide you. It is not a

very acknowledged issue in society, and often an issue we tend to try to forget about.

“Dead End” by Rudolfo Anaya is a short story about Marias life decisions and promises to

her mom. All of us have tried to make hard choices in life. You are always confused about

what the right thing to do is, and which path to take in life, to lead you in the right direction.

After Marias mom passed away, she feels the pressure to take care of her siblings and hold

the family together. Despite Maria wanting to take care of her family, she falls in love with a

guy named Frankie. Maria knows Frankie does drugs and does not take school seriously, but

she does not know whether to hang out with him and her friends or keep the family together

and keep her mom's promises.
