Analyse af T.C. Boyles novelle 'The Human Fly'

the human fly is a rather long short story written by TC Boyle. The story is about a man by the name Zoltan and the narrator whose gender, and the name is both unknown. Zoltan walks into the narrators whose an agent/manager in the hope that he can obtain fame through the performance of life-threatening stunts. The narrator sees a potential gain for himself through helping Zoltan. Then with no guidance and practically no preparation, Zoltan decides to hang himself from a skyscraper in a thin net. he stays there for 2 weeks with it all being broadcast in the news. He becomes famous but decides it’s not enough to satisfy his needs and then comes up with an even grander plan, to strap himself to the side of a plane, have it taken off then land again. the narrator now becomes worried as he fears this could end Zoltan’s life, he tries to persuade him, however, with no success. This time there’s even more press coverage. The narrator is extremely worried about what will happen as shown by " ", watching from the inside of the plane. It seems as if everything was going fine with the narrator even feeling relived until Zoltan gets hit in the face by a bird. However, he survives. Zoltan still doesn’t feel complete and comes up with his biggest and most dangerous stunt yet. He says "I’ll ride the axel from Maine to L.A" which he then ends up doing. The narrator is genially worried about his safety and truly doesn’t want Zoltan to follow through with his plans. he contemplates if he should resign as Zoltan’s manager/agent, however, he comes to the conclusion that Zoltan would do the stunt with or without him. He succeeds and reaches L.A by riding the axel of a truck. when Zoltan arrives there’s a crowd stood around him cheering him on. He then attempts to jump over 26 trucks on a motorcycle however he crashes down onto the 26th leaving him described as "Zoltan was lying there on the pavement like a bundle of broken twigs. The cape was twisted round his neck, and his limbs—the sorry fleshless sticks of his arms and legs—were skewed like a doll’s". Then just three days later he gets buried. Zoltan takes on his third stunt, where he ends up losing his life
