Is it really a good idea to have a law that says it is legal to carry around any kind of firearm? It is no secret that most school shootings have happened in the US. No one know exactly why America is the country with most of these school shootings. Maybe its because that there is not enough safety around the schools. Or maybe the gun law needs a change. Wayne LaPierre discusses these topics in his statement published by the GMT on Friday December 21st
Wayne LaPierre’s main points is that the American schools and popularity should be more focused on their children’s safety rather than thinking about profit. He believes that the US focuses on money and profit rather than thinking of their childrens safety
LaPierre doesn’t really have any logos in his statement because of the absence of statistics. He does use a lot of pathos. He talks about the importance of protecting Americas children. In the beginning of his statement he shows pathos by writing that 27 people were killed. “a week after 27 people were killed in the Connecticut shootings”. As a reader we feel sorrow for the people who was killed and especially for the families left behind. This leaves the reader wanting to read more. LaPierre is also trying to sound logical when he says that every American schools should be supplied with armed guards. “The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun”. For some people this might sound logical. But others maybe think that it would be like pouring gasoline onto a raging fire. By writing this sentence his ethos is destroyed. To gain ethos people should see you as someone who is smart, has a lot of good ideas and thinks about the future. By saying that we should put even more guns into this gun infested country, just makes a lot of people see you as a lunatic.
