Analytical essay of the text “Florida Student Emma Gonzalez’s Speech about Gun Control”
Gun control is the set of laws and policy that regulate the manufacture and sale of guns. Guns have been used for decades and has been a symbol for protection and safety. The use of guns has unfortunately developed a gun into a symbol for death and bereavement instead of protection and safety. In the US is it legal to buy a gun and have it for your own protection. That has resulted in many tragical events as school shootings. The perpetuating killings have modified the general bearing about guns and their influence on the society, even though there is a smaller group of the society who believes that guns give them their individual freedom. Emma Gonzales is a protagonist for the abolition of guns in the US. She lives in Florida and was a senior at the school where there was a school shooting. Her goal is to persuade people about the violence guns have created, which she is talking about in her reflective political speech about gun control.

The receiver is the politicians who has an impact on gun control, and the people who has lost their loved ones through the use of a gun. Emma Gonzales wants to convince the receiver that way too many civilians has lost their life in view of the fact that there are not any restricted rules about the use of a gun. “We certainly do not understand why it should be harder to make plans with friends on weekends than to buy an automatic or semi-automatic weapon.” (p.3 Line 10-11) Here is Emma Gonzales making a comparison to persuade and underline her message. It is not normal that it is easier for you to buy a gun, then it is to make a deal with your friends. This comparison demonstrates the contrast and makes it easier for the receiver to understand and relate to. The target audience will most likely agree with Emma Gonzales viewpoints considering that she is talking at an event for people who has lost their loved ones to guns and especially school shootings.
