Do you know that many cats are left behind by people on holiday when they go back home?
In the vacation area where people have their summer cottages, they will often meet a stray cat looking for food and company. Then they start to take care of the cat, feeding it every day and petting it, and the cat becomes part of the family. Sometimes they let the cat stay in the house and even sleep in their beds. The cat begins to feel safe and loved and attached to his new people. They enjoy the company and the fun of having a cat.
Unfortunately, when the summer is over, the fun is over too. The family will leave without the cat. Maybe they can't have a cat at home or they don't want one. They must believe the cat can survive by himself as he did before, but he can't!
The cat is now a tame animal who forgot to catch mice and live alone. It can feel unwanted, it doesn't get enough to eat, and it begins to lose weight.
As an inspector for the RSPCA, I have often after the holidays traveled to the vacation places to look for the abandoned cats. The cat you can see in the picture was found by me. He was sitting on the doormat of a summer cottage. He was very thin and in a poor condition. I brought him back to our special center, where he got care and treatment. When he was back in good shape we found him a good family.
