The short story “Could it be forever” by Nina Stibbe, is about our female protagonist who lives in England, together with her sister. Her sister has a friend named Celia whose cousin Dave Cassidy came from America, to England for a visit. The sister and Celia tell our main character that while he was staying, fallen madly in love with her.
She is convinced by her sister and her friend Celia that Celia´s cousin Dave likes her and want to exchange letters with her. Following an exchange of letter in which the narrator talks about Princess Anne getting engaged or a historical figure Dave supposedly likes, Dave keeps asking her to reveal her feelings for him.
They send letters across and finally fall in love with each other. But later, Dave continually asks whether she loves him or not. She has not seen him, so she has a hard time loving him.
