Analyse af Nina Stibbes novelle 'Could it be forever'

The short story “Could it be forever” by Nina Stibbe, is about our female protagonist who lives in England, together with her sister. Her sister has a friend named Celia whose cousin Dave Cassidy recently came from America, to England for a visit. The sister and Celia tell our main character that while he was staying, he had fallen madly in love with her, they tell that he fell in love with her while she was pushing her bike up Station Hill, even though our protagonist doesn’t remember pushing her bike. After hearing a lot about Dave, our protagonist agrees to exchange letters with him, she admired the fact that a David Cassidy lookalike had fallen in love with her. When the first letter from Dave comes, our lead character is a bit disappointed of how short it is, compared to her letter. All of the letters Dave sends end up just being him asking if she loves him, she then sends a letter back where it says she can’t be 100% sure if she loves him. This doesn’t please Dave and he ends the relationship. This makes our protagonist believe it was her fault for breaking the relationship, and she stumbles into her sister’s room, and begins to cry. While she griefs on her sister’s bed, she notices all of the letters she sent to Dave where laying under a pillow, apparently her sister and Celia had made him up all along. The story end with Celia cheering our protagonist up, by telling her they were going to kill him of anyway.
