Both of their characters are flat and they primarily symbolize the European lifestyle and culture. Both David and Aisling do not have a big tolerance or understanding of their partners' Indian culture. This comes out when they are being critical of Parminder and Gurpreet becoming more secure and happy for their Indian culture, in the end.
