Edward Snowden the Soldier

The name Edward Snowden is a well-known name in the western part of the world. He has been called a traitor, whistleblower and hero. It really depends who you ask. Snowden has changed the world we live in today. Be it for better or worse. Snowden previously worked as a subcontractor for the NSA in America. While he worked at the NSA. he leaked information to the public about various illegal surveillance programs. It turned out that the US government actually hardcore surveilled their own citizens. So much that there were more people surveilled in the US than all the other surveilled countries. Snowden’s actions started a serious debate about human rights.

Even though Snowden stole and leaked highly classified information to the public. He still made sure that no one got hurt from the leaked information. Some believe that Snowden is a traitor because he threatened national security. And therefore, he is trying to hurt the country. Others believe that he is a hero, role model and inspiration. Even glorifying him for having the balls to go against the Government of the US as a single individual. I do not think that Snowden tried to hurt his country by doing what he did. It just seems unlikely that he would go to such extent. Making sure that the data he leaked was not exposing anyone specific. He even went so far as to contact newspapers and let them form their own opinion and do with data as they pleased. That being said, he must have known that he would somehow affect the national security. He affected the national security in a few different ways. First by leaking information about what the US was doing in other countries. Then second, by just straight up exposing plans about surveillance. Letting terrorists in on the Governments dirty little secrets. He actually made it harder for the Government to spy on terrorists in America and maybe also in the middle eastern part of the world. Even though Snowden exposed the Government to the terrorists. He also exposed them to the citizens of the US. It is a really tough spot to be in.
