Apartheid. One of the biggest tragedies in history. Apartheid is a long time ago. It all started after the first white people came to south Africa, in 1488. Because of the different looks, there became discrimination. The black people hadn't really figured out life as well as the white people had. They didn't have as good clothes and resources, witch made them weaker than the whites. There therefor became slaves. Before apartheid the white people sold an abused the black people, in the most brutal way possible. They were treated like that in many years, until the 1800s where it became illegal. In that time period, over 11 million black slaves had crossed the Atlantic. This was of course much worse than apartheid. After this terrible time of slaves, apartheid started. Apartheid is the difference between people’s rights and opportunities. There was still a very big difference, between the two skin colors. Over the years the rules disappeared for good, or got less strict. When it was at its worst, it was when they weren’t allowed in public schools or activities like sport or cinemas, or even public transport. The apartheid stopped after a lot of demonstrations and some boy-cuts. People got wiser and the black people got a voice. This period of time has such a big place in our history, because of the insane behavior and especially because of the many important people, who appeared in this period, such as Nelson Mandela, Martin Luther King, Rosa Parks and many more. I’m not sure if u can say apartheid is totally over. There are not things they can’t do or enjoy but there is still discrimination. You can’t see it but I know it’s there. It’s not because we still look down at them but more that we still see a difference between us and feel like they are a certain way. That is my sight on things. You see it in movies, books and daily surroundings. These sources make black people the kind that looks and act like a gangster, whit a certain outfit and a different vocabulary. If we continue to give them this character, they will keep becoming such. It’s also the higher powers fault. Such as Donald Trump, who now rules The united states of America. His personal opinion creates frustration and disaster. That is how we slowly are going back to separating and discrimination.
