In the UK they wear school uniforms in a lot of the schools. Is it such a good idea and does it really stop bullying? I will be discussing pros and cons of wearing school uniforms.
When did school uniforms become common?
Over 90% of the British schools require their pupils to wear uniforms. A typical school uniform would be a polo or a shirt with a jumper on top. Trousers for boys and skirts for the girls and black shoes. In the summer, girls are allowed to wear a dress. The color of the outfit is determined by the school. The entire uniform usually costs about 10 pounds for 5 sets of uniforms, which parents are bound to buy. According to 1 the first official recording of the use of school uniforms were in 1222. But it was not until the early 20th century that it became a norm for schools to have a uniform. The uniforms were introduced to show academic skills, give discipline to the students, and to dress them equal to show equality. Therefore it helped the poor pupils to look just as educated and smart as the other pupils, meanwhile it stopped the richer pupils from buying expensive shoes and clothes, so that they couldn’t create a hierarchy through money.
