In Denmark, the English language is widespread. Even those who haven’t learned the language is very keen of it. It’s very much a symbol of status. Not only snobby, or for the higher educated. It’s their way to communicate with each other and to express themselves in their community.

Bent Preisler has just written a book about the English language, our fondness for it, and its entry to Denmark. He thinks that the Anglo-American culture is the reason why the English language has spread so widely and that no one seems to care. He has studied the Danes relation to English. He has come to the conclusion that there is no reason to rephrase the English words as they do in Norway for example. The only way to solve the problem of understanding the language is education.
