My vision for sustainability education and ideas on how to achieve it

A matter of considerable debate nowadays is how we can achieve a sustainability education, in other words creating an appropriate and long lasting community and environment for our peers. It has become more and more obvious that our planet will suffer irreparable damage if we don’t teach young children how to act in order to protect it. First and foremost, it is important for parents and teachers to make their offspring or students aware that the power is in their hands. Helping them to develop their skills, knowledge and behaviour will only lead to a great benefit, such as knowing where they want to go or what to become. Moreover, teaching them the difference between right or wrong and learning to question their current beliefs will make them much more aware of the existing issues. Furthermore, children lose their interest in nature, environment or in what surrounds them, but they are also being ignorant that many countries are not developed yet as their current country might be. Providing countries with new opportunities and helping them to develop should be a main goal for everyone. Being creative, having an opinion, perspective and looking for links when trying to find solutions to a problem should be the things a teacher and parent focus when preparing their children for life. If people are taught good habits when they are young, they are most likely to adopt them as a second nature and be diligent in implementing them. In our ever shrinking times, people barely have time to communicate. Promoting dialogue and teaching children to work together is the mantra for making things work. Bereft of communication and participation in decision making in order to create a society, everything will be ruined. I firmly believe that making children to participate in interactive games, trying to convince them to volunteer and not to spend all the day in from of the computer will only bring benefits to our world.
