The history Jamaica Original inhabitants The original inhabitants of jamaica were named arawaks and they came from south America about 2500 years ago and named island Xaymaca, which meant “land of wood and water” which I think fits very well because it is a very beautiful and vigorous landscape. Like most people would the arawaks loved the island because of its nature and that fits for them because they were peaceful people and they were living by the nature, which meant that they grew a variety vegetables and many other things. They grew cassava, sweet potatoes, maize, fruits, vegetables, cotton
