Better Homes and Gardens is a novel, written by Chaterine Moffat. The overall theme could be the difficulties of being Homeless. Because the novel focuses on all the difficulties the family is facing. The novel takes place in Australia more specifically in a city, very much like Newcastle, we hear about a Family who consist of three people, A Dad, The son who is the Narrator. The family in the Novel is very poor, they live in a Car where they have all their clothes, and sleep at the end of the day. The story is written as it should take place in the 2010’s.

The family we are meeting, has a very good relationship in between each other. They seem like a happy family, but in fact they are facing a lot of difficulties, which the daughter does not seem to know anything about. “Dad says, 'That's great, Princess.' But he doesn't sound like he thinks it's great. He sounds like it's a problem, and it is.”, (p. 3, ll, 90-91) In the quote I have chosen you can see that the dad really wants to be the best for his kids, and putting up a fake illusion for them. But he knows that he must prepare them for the worst, “'If the cops ever come,' he tells us, 'we're on our way to visit your grandparents in Queensland and I pulled over for a sleep when I got tired.'”(p.2, ll, 44-45) And that means he is very concerned to lose his kids to the goverments, because he don't have a place they can stay.
