Analyse af 'Better Homes and Garden'

Better homes and garden are a fictional story, which is written by Catherine Moffat, who lives on the New South Wales Central Coast. Catherine Moffat works as a Liberian at the university of New Castle. Better homes and Garden er not the only story Catherine Moffat have written, Catherine Moffat has also written stories in different genres like Crime and speculative fiction. Some of her other stories in different genres Catherine Moffat has written is, Things that are Found in Trees, Novascapes, The Lost Boy, and Shibboleth.

Catherine Moffat has a very consistent theme trough her work, she like to write about strong social justice and people at the edge of themselves and the edge of society.

That she does in better homes and Garden, which you can easily spot with our main character. The narrator of the story is a first-person narrator, who also participate in the story as our protagonist. The protagonist lives in a car (Line 35, Page 1), with his younger sister and father. The narrator never gives a name or a gender for the protagonist. In line 17-18, page 1 the protagonist is telling us that while our protagonist is doing homework, Dad and Grace are taking a shower. The protagonist also says the Grace is too old for the men’s room, but dad doesn’t want her to be alone. Which tells us that our protagonist is in the men’s room, there for a he. The narrator doesn’t give a lot of information about the protagonist. The protagonist little sister, Grace is the only person, who the narrator gave a name. As hunters say, “never give a pray a name, because you will start to care for it”. Grace is the youngest and most vulnerable and isn’t old enough to get what kind of bad condition the families live under. The reason for the narrator to give little Grace a name, is so that the reader starts to care for the family and specially for Grace.
