Everyone has seen a helicopter parent completely hovering over a child. The child can’t do anything because the parent is scared of the child hurting him/herself. The child is not learning to face the problems that he/she encounters. Everything a child is exposed to during their first years they learn from. Could that be a reason to why so many young people experience depression and anxiety? Guide your child instead of protecting it from its surrounding. The actions of the child get to define what kind of person the child becomes in the future. If kids do not learn social skills from an early age, they do not know how to handle it, when they become teens and therefor can develop mental illnesses.
Children can at an early stage in life develop mental illnesses. It is becoming a bigger problem every year. It has to tackled. Parents are vital when it comes to the upbringing of a child, they are there to “guide” and comfort the child so that he/she in the future can care for themselves. Some parents think they have to please their child in every way possible. So instead of being the guiding parents they end up being extremely reluctant towards their child. The parents in many cases don’t know they are being overprotective either. It’s not the young one’s fault that they experience all this pressure from their families and friends. “Some young people are overachieving perfectionists with a crippling fear of failure. Others worry so much about what their peers think of them that they're unable to function”.
