The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey Analysis
This movie is an adaptation of the book The Hobbit from 1937, written by J.R.R. Tolkien. The movie is about adventure, fantasy and family/friends. It supports the idea that you should never give up or be scared to try something new. At first, Bilbo did not want to go on adventures. He was a quiet and predictable hobbit. He changed his mind though, and it was all worth it.
Suddenly Gandalf the Grey, a well-known wizard, approaches him with a troop of 13 dwarves. Led by their leader, Thorin Oakenshield, they make Bilbo join them on their quest. Though this is not a normal quest, this quest leads them to dark and evil lands swarming with goblins, orcs, giant spiders and other creatures. Though they can not take the path they mean to, they find another one. What Bilbo discovers on his quest would change his life forever. Gollum. Alone with Gollum in a cave, Bilbo finds his courage and bravery. He also finds Gollum's “precious” ring, but this is no normal ring, this is a magical ring forged a long time ago. That ring may look like a ring, but it is not - it has the ability to turn anyone who wears it invisible. This ring will change the outcome of their quest.
