A contrafactual version of what could have happened for one of the boys from the ‘James Bulger’ case. The case of ‘James Bulger’ revolved around to boys Robert Thomson and Jon Venables. The two young boys kidnaped a Toddler James Bulger and brutally assaulted and killed the boy at the railroads in Liverpool in 1993. In the story we meet Eric, we do not know which of the boys from the ‘James Bulger’ case Eric is supposed to portray. When we meet Eric, he has been in and out prison a few times and has gone through various social programs. We get introduced to Eric through a meeting with his contact person, who is telling him he is getting released and getting a new chance in life. He gets re-socialised into society and things seem to be going good for him, he gets new friends, a job and a girlfriend. For a long time, it seems that the world has accepted him, and life is good. But his secret comes out and his world is flipped. His story is now all in the newspapers and he gets excluded from society ones again. He can not take it in the end and takes he own life, as the thought of his past starts haunting him again. In this story the question of ‘re-socialisation’ is raised. Can a person who has committed a horrible crime be reintegrated into the world. How long does it take for a community to forgive a person for their crimes and can they be forgiven? In this case it seems they can not. He is not punished by the judicial system of England in this case but by the English people, and the situation would probably be the same in Denmark. Because if old cases are brought up and old emotions will probably also be awakened.
