The story “It's beginning to hurt” by James Lasdun, is about Mr. Bryar who just has lost his ex Marie, who he was together within 3 years. Mr. Bryar got married after Marie left him. After Marie's funeral, his wife calls him at the funeral and asks him if he could pick up a wild salmon at “Dalgleish”. Mr. Bryar does not refuse but lies about that he had lunch, but was at Marie's funeral when her wife asks about where he has been. And goes to buy the fish after the funeral. He leaves the fish behind him and enters the office. It has been late so he rushes home. On his way home on the train, he thought about how good time he had spent with Marie, and in the 3 years they were together, he felt like the luckiest man alive.
