Summary

Serrusalmus is a short story written by Lesley Glaister. The main character is Marjorie, who is a challenged girl in many ways. As she gets older, she gets more sick and more anti-social. When she was a little girl, she was very impressed by ants and loved to look at them. Now she thinks that fish are more peaceful than ants. Therefore, she has a lot of fish in a big fish-tank. One day in her apartment, Mick comes by. He always annoys Marjorie, eats her food, rents her money and never pays them back. But this day, he helped her switching aquarium for her fish. He pretends to take care of the sick fish, but suddenly he is blackmailing her for money. He takes the net out of the window and asks her how much the fish is worth to her. He wants a hundred for him to stay inside, but Marjorie doesn’t have that kind of money. He’s flipping the net, so the fish falls. And then he leaves the apartment. Then he comes back, on the run from a fight. Marjorie makes him a drink. She mixes some of her agoraphobia pills in his drink. He falls asleep as he empties his glass. She now takes a bucket and puts her piranha, Russ, into it. She puts his hand in the bucket and the piranha eats it.
