It was a cold night. Mom gave me her scarf as we walked up the stairs. I had begged her to take me up to the deck to watch the waves and the night sky. However, as soon as we stepped out, we heard a very loud sound. At first, we didn’t know what was going on, but as we turned around, we saw that the Titanic had collided with a gigantic iceberg. My mom immediately took me back to our room. She panicked, but she knew that we had to get up to the lifeboats. I was very young at the time, so my mom was sure that I had a high chance of getting in one of the first lifeboats.
I remember being so scared that I would maybe never see my mother again, mostly because everyone around me was crying, hugging each other and saying their last goodbyes.
I remember that a man lifted me onto the lifeboat and placed me right beside my mom. The lifeboat was several meters above the water, so it hurt a lot when they released it, and it hit the water.
One of the men who helped us get onto the lifeboat was also one of the lucky people, who got a spot on the lifeboat. He helped us sail away from the sinking Titanic, so we didn’t end up getting caught in the stream, that had been created by the suction from the water entering the ship.
