I chose Australian crime as my topic because it's an extremely interesting topic to
look into. I also think that it's really important to learn different stories, and share my
perspective on this certain topic.
Aboriginal Crime:
Most of the crime in Australia is a result of the big difference between the aboriginals and the
white people. Out of Australia's 25 million people, only about 800,000 of them are Aboriginal.
This huge difference is clearly seen in the Aboriginal living conditions and the way they are
treated. Actually half of the population of the young Australian prisons are from an aboriginal
origins.
Crime in general:
One of the most common crimes in Australia is sexual assault, and the largest proportion of
victims are women. The number of abusers has grown constantly in the recent years, and by
2023 around 8 000 people will be in prison. Robbery is the second most reported crime in
the country..
Although we wouldn't expect it, the amount of crime has reduced over the past 20 years.
This include the fact that the country has managed to reduce alcohol intake among younger
people, wealth levels have also improved and the unemployment rate has fallen.
